MHEF Awards $32,500 in Scholarships

The Maryland Hospitality Education Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of the Letitia B. Carter Scholarship and the NRAEF/MHEF Co-Branded and the Erikka A. Hayes Foundation Scholarships for 2008.  In addition to the Marcia S. Harris awards previously announced, these awards bring the total scholarship fund given in 2008 to $32,500.  Congratulations to all recipients!

The Letitia B. Carter scholarship is awarded to students, teachers and restaurant professionals.  The following people are receiving 2008 Carter scholarships:

Amanda Essner, $1000 

Amanda is currently attending The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY where she is pursuing a degree in Culinary Arts.

Alexandria Gutierrez, $1000 

Alexandria is currently attending Anne Arundel Community College/HCAT.  She will transfer to Johnson and Wales University, Charlotte, NC where she will pursue a degree in Food Service Management.

Patricia Sener, $1000

Patricia is currently attending Johnson and Wales University, Charlotte, NC where she is pursuing a degree in Culinary Arts.

Lynn Slupski, $1000

Lynn will be attending the Baltimore International College in the fall of 2008 to pursue a Master of Science in Hospitality Management. 

Teresa Smith, $1000

Teresa is a ProStart teacher at Thomas Edison High School of Technology in Silver Spring, MD.  Teresa will use her scholarship to enhance her program by attending an Italian Cookery Course in Casa Ombuto in Tuscany just outside of Arezzo.

The NRAEF/MHEF Co-Branded Scholarship is a program in which the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation matches funds given by MHEF.  The scholarship is awarded to high school seniors.  Receiving the NRAEF/MHEF Co-Branded Scholarships are the following:

Brittany Goldman, $3,000

Brittany is a ProStart Student at Carver Center for the Arts and Technology in Towson, MD.  Brittany will be attending the Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, NY in the fall of 2008 to pursue a degree in Baking and Pastry Arts.

Edson Miranda, $3,000

Edson is a ProStart Student at Sherwood High School in Olney, MD.  Edson will be attending Kendall College, Chicago, IL in the fall of 2008 to pursue a degree in Culinary Arts.

Allison Rill, $3,000

Allison is a ProStart Student at Carroll County Career and Technical Center in Westminster, MD.   Allison will be attending the Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, NY in the fall of 2008 to pursue a degree in Culinary Management.

Jordan Truitt, $3,000

Jordan is a student at Holly Grove Christian School in Westover, MD.  Jordan will be attending the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Princess Anne, MD in the fall of 2008 to pursue a degree in Restaurant/Hotel Management.

Receiving the Erikka A. Hayes Foundation Scholarship is:

David Cox, $500.00

David is a ProStart Student at Forestville Military Academy in Forestville, MD.  David will be pursuing a degree in Culinary Arts.  He has been accepted to numerous colleges and universities.
